GTI Oil Leak Update/Year in Review TL;DR

Traded in Fiesta ST with transmission on it’s way out for a GTI, that now is having it’s transmission removed for an oil leak at 6600 miles. Maybe sometime next year I’ll get it back.

Of course the oil pan is two parts.

Also, every time I get a loaner car, we get a t ornado warning(nothing happened .)

I hope to God my ST’s transmission is OK.  What is the estimated replacement on one of those bad boys?

Depends on how new you want it to go. I want to say around $1500.

I could just go nuclear. Get a sequential box.

Might as well if this trans craps out. It’d be significantly more expensive, but probably worth it for a long term project car like mine.

Nope. That thing always has something wrong with it. I think it’s somewhat fixed now, but  I don’t trust driving it anywhere atm.

Is this a dsg problem or is it a bad oil pan? Sorry for not understanding

Not a DSG problem, the upper oil pan(yep, two parts) or upper oil pan gasket was faulty from the factory. Getting it off requires trans removal on either car, as some of the bolts are behind the flywheel.

On the bright side, that GTI sure is photogenic in that green. Sucks for the repair so soon, but hopefully it won’t develop more issues down the road. From what I hear, the MkVII is a bit more reliable, at least engine- and transmission-wise, than the Fiesta ST, Focus ST/RS, and Mustang Ecoboost.

Wow that sucks, but thanks for the picture. Wonder what that job costs. Hope the dealer gets it right again.

Yep. The Fiesta beat this to the dealer, it was a bit less extensive though.

Yeah, also I’ve realized I’ve grown quite attached to it. It could be the Prednisone messing with my emotions, but it feels like a friend is in the hospital.
